The question of the emergence of young artists is already a subject in itself. But the emergence of young world music artists is taking us into much wider territories and issues. In Quebec as in France, beyond artistic and musical creation itself, World Music questions the place of interculturality, crossbreeding, the relationship with diasporas, with so-called traditional or indigenous cultures, and how artistic creation, and therefore young artists, find their place in it. By its very nature, World Music opens us up to the many cultures and languages that inhabit the globe, whether from here or elsewhere. They find their place in a “global” musical production that sometimes tries to put them to one side, to make them invisible, or even to reduce them to their “community” dimension, forgetting in the process the universal emotional power of music, as well as the necessary and salutary diversity of cultural signs. How are young world music artists emerging in Quebec and France ? In this common space of the French-speaking world, where one language unites us while recognizing and valuing the multilingualism of the majority of speakers, how can practices and perspectives from both sides of the Atlantic intersect and enrich each other ? Is the relationship with multiculturalism the same ? How does the latter influence the ability of these young artists to emerge ? What are the obstacles ? What bridges could be built between our continents ? Panel underway, bringing together professionals from both sides of the Atlantic
