Displaced Artists Day — 10/12 in Paris

Displaced artists deserve special attention in the development of their careers, whatever their legal status. For their careers are often jeopardized and/or devalued, either by professional downgrading or by disruption. But beyond these purely artistic obstacles, we need to take into account their journey into exile, which is in fact a traumatic one, often marked by violence, fear or sadness due to separation. That’s why the human and professional accompaniment of these artists represents a crucial issue in the apprehension of these social and cultural difficulties.

On a professional level, this support means recognizing their status as full-fledged cultural players, and inserting this artistic identity into a new context. It also means offering protection (in the case of political exiles) against possible transnational repression. Finally, it means giving them the tools they need to integrate, such as access to networks, residencies, funding and media visibility. This requires coordination between public institutions, cultural structures and solidarity players, to build lasting bridges between exile and creation. On a human level, it’s a question of offering them sympathetic support and a listening ear.

This one-day event, aimed at all professionals and displaced artists, will address these issues by dealing with public policies and other issues relating to support for artists, as well as offering them tools to help them pursue their artistic projects, notably through : discovering the professional environment in France, time for exchanges between peers and with professionals, discussion groups, etc.

Note : French will be the main language for the morning program, with round tables and keynote speakers (translation will be provided if necessary). For the artists’ courses, they will be asked at the time of registration whether or not they speak French, so that, if necessary, a French-speaking and an English-speaking group can be formed.

Meeting organized by Technopol and Zone Franche, in association with : l’Association des Centres Culturels de Rencontre, l’Atelier des Artistes en Exil, la Cité Internationale des arts de Paris, On the Move, la Cimade (other associated organizations pending).
